Weather: Sunny, slight wind, upper 60s air temp
River Conditions: Low and clear, 1400 cfs @ Umtanum, 58° F water temp
Hot Flies: Pheasant Tails, Caddis, Frenchies
Bug Scene: Lots To make fish look up
There were a lot of bugs hatching in the early afternoon. Large caddis (#12-16) had fish eating on the surface, as well as March Browns and a few Salmonflies. BIG salmonfly nymphs crawling around the bottom and March Brown nymphs cruising through the water column.
Fishing Forecast: Suuuper low water
The water levels right now for May are crazy low. We should be in peak runoff right now. Instead, we are seeing flows that we usually see in September when the river drops for fall. This means a lot of wade access in all sections of the river. Fish are concentrated in deeper holes and runs. We should be able to successfully fish the Mother's Day Caddis Hatch this year if the flows persist. Our dry fly action will only get better!
