Just a quick update for all you fishy folks, the Yak jumped about 1,000 cfs over the last 48 hours, but it looks like flows should start dropping overnight. The clarity has remained pretty good (around two feet or so), so the river should be plenty fishable over the weekend.
With the volume being higher than normal, focusing on the soft edges and inside corners will be your best bet to find fish. The nymph rig shines in these type of conditions, with larger profile stonefly nymphs and San Juans being a really good choice if you like catching fish.
Streamer patterns that move some water can also be productive in high flows, and don't rule out the Skwala dry, although I would expect larger bugs like Chubby Chernobyls will get the fish's attention more than the slim profile bulletheads we were fishing earlier in the week.
