Sorry for the lag in recent reports folks, our guide staff just spent a week in Missoula, MT at OGR17, the yearly guide rendezvous put on by Orvis. We met some great guides and outfitters from around the country, ate some great food, and had a blast fishing and camping in the Missoula area. We also attended some great seminars and classes that will help us up our game, and provide an even better experience to our loyal blog readers and fishing guests.
Since we've been in Montana, we haven't been fishing the Yak in the past few days, but with the Umtanum gauge showing flows lower than they have been in weeks (3400 cfs at this writing) fishing should be strong both nymphing and dry-fly fishing. March Browns have been popping i nthe early afternoon on overcast days, and fishing a #12-14 Purple Haze or Parachute March Brown trailed by a PT Cripple should get some attention for those fish eating on top. Nymphing pre and post-hatch with a #8 Pat's Stone in brown or olive trailed by a #12 flashback PT, Hare's Ear or San Juan worm should get sme love as well. It looks like we are going to see a bump of water with warm weather showing up by Thursday, so tomorrow might be your last chance to fish the canyon for a few days!
