Yakima River Fly Fishing Report

The river is below 3000 cfs in the canyon for the first time in a long time. Because the river is continuing to drop, the fish are moving out off of some of the softer banks and into faster, deeper water. Nymphing has been the best way to catch fish, a Pat's stone fished 2-3 feet under an indicator trailed by a cdc prince or PT in #12-14 is the go-to setup. Because the river is low, ish your nymph rigs light with no split-shot to keep your bugs from constantly hnging up, There has been some sporadic caddis activity, although it's been slow the last few days with cooler temps and big wind. Rigging a second rod with an elk hair (#12-14) trailed by a cdc caddis emerger should cover any opportunities at feeding fish that present themselves.
